What's New at Jumbo

You can tell it's shopping day at Casa Fuse. Jesus, my talent at shelf-gazing is limitless. Here are some new (to me at least) products worth writing home about.

Maggi Seasoning: Praise the lord. Finally, I can now get this nectar of life in Argentina! Woohoo. For the uninitiated, Maggi Seasoning is like the Cadillac of soy sauce. If aroma could be bottled, this'd be it, folks. As a kid growing up in Phnom Penh, I lived off of blocks of French butter and bottles of Maggi, smearing/dousing liberally on hot, crusty baguettes and steaming white rice. I needed nor wanted anything else. Since my mother did not nurse me (passing me off to nannies with dry boobies), I fondly look back at Maggi Seasoning as my breastmilk equivalent. The one I bought at Jumbo is actually a Danish import. The big bottle version was marked at a criminal $60 pesos! [Insert emoticon googly eyes.] Thank God I have visitors coming.

Curry Ketchup: After my disappointment with the Picante Ketchup, this one actually delivers. Granted, the curry spices aren't strong, but noticeable nevertheless. As a condiment slut, I will place this one in my "good enough" file.

Yogurt: OK, this one is a stretch in terms of deliciousness. It's just that the yogurt here sux if you're used to the all-natural, no-gelatin-added, organic schmancy stuff from Whole Foods. Still, this has no added sugar, which is enough for me to keep buying. Bonus: The cute little glass jar makes a nice carafe for my Kinder egg toy collection.

Yay Maggi!! Here's a quaint Rockwell like illustration of a woman pleasantly cooking and displaying her Maggi's Wurze.

wuerze must mean aroma, since the english bottles always scream AROMA under Maggi. i'm too lazy to look it up.

the radio would make a great bd prez for, well, me. take note!

ok, wa. i just looked up some stuff on our beloved maggi. (the wuerze means sauce apparently.) anyway, it was created as cheap substitute for meat extract almost 150 yrs ago, before it became known as a soy sauce alternative. also, i dunno why i've never noticed before, but there's no actual soy in it! i found a bottle masquerading as maggi in the chinatown here, it had the triangular shape and everything, but it was faux in every way.

i hope sarah sends me those miniature bottles with bo!
